Freestyler
Freestylers catch the wave just before the lip of the big drop. They surf it, do spins and other cool tricks. The normal finish is a "Wavewheel" (end-over-end cartwheel) over the eighteen-foot drop. Scoring points in Freestyle competition is similar to the way points are scored in ice skating.

During the practice and recreational runs all paddlers wait in the eddy above the last rapid - that approaches the edge of the big drop. Sprinters sprint. Freestylers take various approaches to the waves above the falls, do their routine and "Wavewheel" over the edge. During the freestyle competition it works the same way. The competitors wait in the eddy as opposed to the put-in as the sprinters do.
